Calming Down
7 August 2024
You may have noticed the site looks a lot like how it used to. I came back last weekend and decided to scrap the whole site. I have reverted that decision, and went back to the old style with a few minor changes. I didn't restore the old files, instead I reapplied the old style to my new site because the new site uses 11ty a lot better than the old one did, so my css is massively simplified and writing blog posts / site pages is much easier for me.
Mentally I didn't feel great the last week or so, and I think binning the whole site was my way of trying to control something. I reached out to a therapist in July, had an intro session that went really well, but they only had one slot available and somebody else had taken it before I had chance to confirm, so that really sucks. I could keep looking for another one, but it is so exhausting to reach out to somebody in that way I'm not sure I have the energy for it.
Anyway, the new design wasn't sitting right with me. I liked the concept, but it wasn't my site. I like the bright colours and the bees, I like that my site is quite a happy-looking one. I'll keep tweaking here and there but overall the colour scheme is one I'm fond of.
I have restored some of the old blog posts that I felt were worth keeping, and might restore some more later on. Converting them to the new file format can be a little annoying, HTML doesn't care about whitespace so I threw a lot in to make it more readable without it impacting the page view, but markdown does care so I have to remove it all. I also have to remove any HTML elements and replace them with markdown equivalents which is annoying.
I'm feeling good about coming back to Neocities though, just gotta focus on the positives.
