Raiding & A New Ride

2 August 2025

These World of Warcraft posts are probably quite boring if you've never played, sorry for the amount of them but I am playing a lot right now!

I recently hit level 70 with Mahsia the Shaman, which on the server I'm playing on is currently the max level since it's running The Burning Crusade. At max level there are a lot of different things you can do, and one of them is raiding. I've never raided before despite being a long time player because back in ~2008 it honestly scared me. People were obsessed with the quality of your gear, of the damage per second you can output. People made it sound like life or death, and it really put me off because it sounded stressful, not fun! So when I hit max level and my guild asked if I wanted to raid, I was a little apprehensive.

I did not need to be because they are the kindest, most patient WoW players I've ever played with before. On the first run I did not actually sign up to the raid beforehand because of the aforementioned apprehension, but I was online as it was starting and they asked if I wanted to join. I said yes, and they teleported me in. I was quite scared but they explained each boss encounter beforehand, and nobody said anything about dps, which is good because I know that my first run had very poor damage! Never the less, we finished the raid and I got several shiny epic level gear pieces from it. They all said it was a pretty bad run and not indicative of usual performance, mainly because the two tanks (the people who try to keep the boss' attention) were under-geared so they got squashed a lot. I didn't mind at all though, it was fun.

A few days later we did the same raid again, and it went much smoother. We didn't wipe (wipe = everyone dies) once! I did die a few times, but way less than last time. We then followed up with another raid, Karazhan, where I got a couple more epics. I also changed up my skills so I did way more damage in these runs than I did last time, and I'm feeling really good about raiding now. In the next few months my server will be starting the next expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, which has new raids for us to try out and I can't wait!

Something else I've been doing is trying to get a very specific type of mount, a Talbuk. It's sort of like a tall-legged goat, and to be able to ride these you have to be super best friends with a faction called the Kurenai. It's a bit of a grind, as it involves killing a lot of their enemies the Ogres, but I managed to get it! It's something I adored since I was a kid, but back then I didn't have the patience to get my reputation high enough to buy it.

Here is Mahsia riding her Cobalt-blue War Talbuk. Talbuk mount
