A few little things
20 September 2025
It has been a short while since I wrote anything here, I didn't feel like I had anything to write about. Now I have a things I'd like to write down, and a few minor frustrations to get off my chest.
The first is literally off my chest. My wife and I flew to Poland recently, and we caught a cold almost immediately. Day two, and I began coughing. Day three and we both had no energy to do anything. I was really looking forward to the trip too, but most of the things we planned had to be canceled because we didn't feel up to it. We're back in the UK now, but the cough still lingers. Hopefully we'll be feeling better soon!
I was also really happy to hear that Jeremy Corbyn, former leader of the Labour party, was starting a new political party. The idea was that it would be entirely led by its members, with voting on all policies and decisions shaping the party. Unfortunately, it has basically crumbled before it began because senior MPs in the party couldn't decide on things, leading to one of them to spin up a membership portal, taking payment from members without the consent or approval of the other leaders. A post was put out telling people to cancel the payments, the portal has been removed, and that founding MP has been frozen out of everything. Even if the party somehow survives, this level of mismanagement is insane. Meanwhile, Reform are spreading their propaganda far and wide, and there is no decent left-wing party to counter it. Seriously, I've been looking for an actual left-wing party to join since Labour are clearly not it anymore. Most of the socialist parties are either run by TERFs, have a history of sexual harassment, or do nothing but sell newspapers. I have at least joined a union, and will keep looking for a decent socialist party to join.
I've started playing Runescape again, while I've played on and off over the years I haven't really touched my main account since 2018 maybe? I don't remember exactly when I stopped, but it was a long time ago. I came back and immediately attempted the fight caves, a tough combat challenge that ends fighting one of the toughest monsters in the game. It takes about an hour to reach the final challenge, and I actually stopped playing my main originally because this was frustrating me too much. Amazingly, when I came back I managed to beat it day one, first (new) attempt. I've since been enjoying quests and skilling on my main again, and I'm looking forward to a new bingo-inspired (seriously) event that will be happening in a few weeks.
The weather has immediately turned to autumn where I live too. After a long dry spring, followed by a long dry summer, it has been refreshing to have some rainfall! Our resevoirs are dangerously low so I'm hoping the pressure will ease a little if this wet autumn continues.
I'm also really excited for our new shed being delivered soon. Our current one is tiny, a little 3x4 foot thing that barely fits the lawnmower. When we first bought our house, the old shed was rotting and falling down, so I replaced it with this one thinking it was bigger than it is... After two years we'll finally have a decent sized shed. I'm looking forward to building my own proper workbench for it! I'll finally be able to keep my tools in the shed instead of in the kitchen too!
