The Honey Pot

Collection III: I don't know what I'm doing, but I'm doing it

Back to photography

I've watched a few YouTube videos, read a few photography blogging posts. I know about RAW. I don't know much, or why it's so complicated, but I know about it. So I used it. It is probably obvious to people who actually know what they are doing, but I was basically twiddling these photos blindly. Shooting in JPEG was so much less work! I really struggled to get the balance between "this looks faded as fuck" and "this looks like it was taken in a radiation zone". Hence the title.

This collection has helped me ask myself "What do I want to capture?". Anyone can walk into the woods and snap some pictures, it's exactly what I did. I am going to think a little deeper about what I want to shoot next.

Two logs float in a murky pond with the surrounding trees reflected in the water's surface.

A falling tree reflects in the water, creating an arrow. The water is murky, and the trees bare.

A mossy tree is bent in the shape of a banana.

A shot straight up at the tall, thin trees against a bright blue sky.

A muddy path bends to the right, the sun shining as it curves out of view.

An arrow is spray painted on a tree pointing left, we cannot see what it is pointing at.

A puddle reflects the sunlight in a muddy path.

An ivy, moss covered tree stands in the foreground, in the background is an algae covered pond.

A new shoot grows next to a mossy tree stump.

What you have not seen in this collection is a series of photos I took of all the litter I found in this woodland. A cut up mattress, dumped by the entrance, along with household rubbish. Beer cans thrown in the river. Bags of dog shit thrown off the path. I was going to have a sub-collection dedicated to this litter titled "Stop being cunts, you cunts" but I didn't want to waste effort processing photos that annoy me. Seriously, though. There is no need. This woodland is beautiful, why would you throw litter away here?
